About Gen G Engage App
Gen G Engage is a transformative application dedicated to increasing access to justice in South Africa, a country grappling with high levels of crime and gender-based violence. With over 25,000 murder cases recorded in 2022/2023 and the pervasive underreporting of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), the urgency for meaningful action has never been greater.
Our Purpose
Gen G Engage aims to empower civil society organizations, young people, and communities with tools and information to effectively address GBVF and build a gender-just society. By enhancing coordination within the GBVF sector and promoting awareness of prevention strategies, the app strives to make justice and equality more accessible to all South Africans.
Key Challenges Addressed
- Underreporting of GBVF: Many cases of GBVF go unnoticed, leaving survivors without support and perpetrators unaccountable.
- Lack of Coordination: Existing GBVF structures require enhancement to operate more effectively and cohesively.
- Low Access to Information: Communities lack evidence-based resources to enforce gender equality and justice.
- Limited Awareness: There is a significant gap in knowledge about GBVF prevention and intervention.
Our Solution
The Gen G Engage app is built around three critical components:
- Access to Justice: We simplify and streamline the process of reporting GBVF cases, connecting users to the appropriate resources and authorities for support and resolution.
- Access to Information: The app provides evidence-based resources to empower individuals and organizations with the knowledge to tackle GBVF and promote gender equality in their communities.
- GenG Chat: A dedicated space for community dialogue, where users can engage in group chats to discuss pressing issues, share experiences, and collaborate on solutions. This feature fosters a sense of solidarity and shared purpose.
Additional Features
- Videos Page: A library of educational videos designed to inform and empower users on GBVF prevention, intervention strategies, and success stories from communities tackling these issues.
- Podcast Page: A dedicated space for podcasts featuring expert discussions, survivor stories, and insights into building a gender-just society.
- Case Monitoring Page: Users can lodge cases of GBVF and track their progress directly through the app. This feature ensures transparency, accountability, and updates throughout the resolution process.
Our Vision
Gen G Engage envisions a South Africa where every individual has equal access to justice, where communities are informed and empowered, and where GBVF is not only addressed but actively prevented. Together, we can build a safer and more equitable society.
